NorCal House of Chess has the tradition of breeding State, National and International Champions! A lot of our kids belong in the top 100 nationwide among their age-group, some of which even represented USA in the World Youth Chess Championships. In fact, we had several world-youth qualifiers who attended our chess camp in preparation for World Youth Chess Championships in Slovenia in 2014 and also in Porto Carras, Greece in 2015. In both 2016 and 2017, we had several kids who participated at the North American Youth Chess Championships and World Youth as well. This year, our kids won 6 out of 7 national team championships at the National Junior Congress last March 2018.

Our excellent chess program is the best around: In terms of curriculum, teacher-student ratio; quality of coaches and spectacular results of our students! This summer, we continue to have world-class trainers who will train our kids. Our coaching staff this year is headed by Grandmaster Dejan Bojkov (Senior trainer and former coach of Women World Champion Stefanova)! He will be teaching for 4 weeks. He’s been teaching with us for many years now. We will also have Grandmaster Timur Gareyev. He presently holds the Guinness World Record for the most of the number of opponents in a blindfold simul. He will be teaching the kids on how to visualize positions.  We will also have 8-time Illinois State Champion International Master Angelo Young! In-house coaches International Master Omar Cartagena and International Master-elect Ronald Cusi will also teach this summer. All of whom are members of the USAT West Champions. The coach of many superstar kids, Ted Castro will be the head coach. We also have Andrew Kubak who will teach in our beginner classes together with Seth Castro. Other assistant coaches will be WCM Antara Garai, Kevin Moy, CM Pranav Senthilkumar, Arul Swaminathan and Anirudh Seela.

Over the years, we have shown outstanding results as seen through our students. Couple of years ago, we had one kid who attended our chess camp for more than 2 months and she gained 500 rating points (from 900 to 1400)!!!  Our successful program has produced great results in various ways! Hence, the kids learn a lot and have tons of fun and also become champions!

Whether your kid is a beginner or advanced player, they will definitely learn a lot and enjoy attending our summer camps. We have all sorts of activities – table tennis, basketball hoops, foosball, and many other board games!

3 Different Levels: Beginner, Intermediate and Advance

Beginners Camp – This group is for kids who haven’t played chess before or knows a little bit of chess. If they’re absolute beginners, we will make sure the kids will learn how to play a full game of chess by the end of the week. If they know a little bit, they will learn how to fully notate a full game.

Intermediate Camp – Kids who belong in this class should have a minimum USCF rating of 300 up to 850. If he or she doesn’t have any ratings, we will consider them as long as they have attended several chess classes and knows the following: castling, en passant, and how to notate his/her game.

Advance/Master Camp – Kids in this class usually have a minimum rating of 850 (with a recommendation of his/her coach). This class is taught either by a Grandmaster or International Master. We’ve had kids whose rated up to 1800 attend this class.
